The Computer Science and Engineering Division of Louisiana State University offers one undergraduate degree, a B.S. in Computer Science with a choice of three concentrations, either software engineering, distributed systems and networking, or computer science and a second discipline. The chosen concentration is expected to be declared at the beginning of a student’s sophomore year. There is also a minor in Computer Science that is available.
This concentration requires 120 credit hours with required courses in computer science, software systems, operating systems, programming languages, and of course, software engineering among other courses as well. In addition, students must complete courses in science, humanities, social science, and English.

The Computer Science and Engineering Division of Louisiana State University offers one Master’s degree in Systems Science. The Master’s program is a two-year program which culminates with an oral defense of a thesis/report at the end of the second year.
Students are required to complete a minimum of 37 graduate level credit hours to fulfill the degree requirements. Three core courses in algorithms, programming languages, and databases must be taken and completed with either an A or B grade. If less than an A or B is received, the course must be repeated. The report option requires 6 credit hours and the thesis option requires 12 credit hours. In the first year, the student should file a plan of study that includes their concentration choice.
The Computer Science and Engineering Division of Louisiana State University offers a Ph.D. in Computer Science. This enables students to prepare for research related careers in industrial laboratories or universities.
This Ph.D. program can take five years or more to complete, but that includes Master’s degree completion as well. The program requires 55 graduate level credit hours, including 37 credit hours of coursework with a grade of B or above. There are five mandatory core courses for 15 hours of credit that include algorithms, theory of computation, programming languages, operating systems, and computer architecture. These core courses must be passed with either an A or a B grade. 18 hours of dissertation research must also be completed. A written exam is taken by all Ph.D. candidates before the oral defense of the student’s dissertation project.
